Ok folks, let me tell you a thing or two about my experience with my IKON Customs guitar The Resistor. First of all I have to say that it was a bit hard to imagine how this guitar was gonna be like, I mean, it looks like a beast, thanks to Marc Anthony H Bertone. The resin body feels great and the guitar has a great balance. What's probably the most important thing for a guitarist is how it plays, how the neck profile feels like. Marc tried to describe it to me, and I did understand it, but would I like it? The answer is I totally dig it. Felt great at first and it keeps growing on me. It's a riff machine I tell you. When I picked it up on the nearest gas-station(!), I felt the urge to un-wrap it straight away. Something I did. All of a sudden you sit there with a brand new guitar that is something completely different than anything else I have ever played. Rad ,a word I picked up from my American friends, is a good word for it! I know there are whiners that don't like the looks of it, and that's ok, even though I don't understand why really. But obviously it's a guitar your grandma probably would find repulsive. IKON is right, they don't make guitars, they re-invent them. It takes lots of balls and stamina to pull something like that off. All credit to Marc and the IKON staff. My Resistor had some initial problems with adapting to it's new climate since Huston is very humid and the inlands of Norway is very dry, but day by day it became more settled and now it's perfect. Wood is very much alive and I expected that to happen. One of the first thing you DON'T think about when it's in your hands, is to play some sad blues. This guitar is a mean MF I tell you. You'll have to work to tame this beast! Are you up for it, or do you run away with your tail between your legs? Back home where all the guitars look the same, back to guitars that don't frighten you or challenge you in any way? It really should be ok to try out something new, I mean guitarists usually have more than one guitar, and it's a reason for that. Different guitars give different sounds and different feel overall. The neck is both fat AND slim, very hard to describe really, I never played anything like this, it feels totally fresh. Feels like an IKON neck. I like necks that you can really feel in you hand. And with the Necrobucker signature pickup I have a grin on my face constantly. The pickup gives me just what I was after, the good old rock/metal vibe. It's not ultra hot and on fire, it's vintage! If you really want tons of fuzz it's no problem today anyway.
So, I've had the Resistor for a bit more than two weeks now, and so far it's been twisting my mind in a good way. Gonna spend more time with it, and then I might come back with another chunk of words on it. I wish you all the best, and thanks for reading. Gonna face the beast NOW!
