Isn't walnut a heavier more dense wood?? If I remember right from looking at Carvins wood options and specs. I do know that alder is light because my Jackson Kevin Bond Rhoads v is light as fuck!!

Man I couldn't answer that one. Marc could definitely answer that though! Maybe put some kindof small metal weights or something into the back part of the body wood to have a counter weight effect???

The down fall on the balance is definitely going to be the tuners. I know my schecter v-7s tuners make it very neck heavy and it has a Korina wood body which is a little heavier than mahogony. Awesome idea though and good luck with that!! Post some pics when you get that beast made!!

This is why I haven't made V's or basses just yet (V's have no top horn and basses have 34" scale necks) Using different types of wood definitely dictates tone. If you're just going for weight, Basswood, Poplar, or Alder are pretty light, Mahogany or Walnut is on the heavier side. For building my guitars you already know I gave up on wood, I have some crazy shapes so wood just wouldn't hold up. If an Arachnoid was made of wood the legs would just snap off. For the necks I still go for Hard Maple. Its bright and stable. However the Bocote fretboard on the Blue Demon was pretty awesome, if you don't want relief on the neck. You can have heavier tuners (my locking tuners are on the heavier side) just make up for it on the strap button placement.

Just my Schecter v-7 and my Jackson Kevin Bond Rhoads sig. right now. I did have a Ibanez Prestige rga and a Peavy usa Wolfgang and a Jackson Kelly pro with a crimson swirl finish. I've had to sell a few to pay medical bills etc..

OH hey bro the kevin bonds are actually lightweight mahogany that actually played a huge part in why i wanted mine. K.bond played les pauls and still wanted the darker tone which to me is fucking awesome because all the other rr v's are maple necks with alder wings.

Really ? Damn ,I thought it was alder like the rest of the RR v-s. Still light as fuck and has awesome tone and massive crunch!!!

oh yeah dude Im a 24 fret kinda guy(27 if ya got em) so only having 22 on the KB V can hurt but my mate in abyssion has a rr24 with floyd and emg and i'm sure the mahogany and fixed bridge make my guitar sound better.

I've used them and they are ok , but I like passive pickups like Semour Duncans better because they have more tone and character. My Jackson v has a SD El Diablo and it's output is fucking massive with great tone too. I also had a Gibson Sg Standard and put a Sd Sh 13 Dimebucker in it and that thing would fucking scream but also had great tone for good clean sounds. That's just my preference though I'm not downing Emgs at all!!
